What is McTimoney Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a straight forward method of adjusting the bones of your body to improve the alignment of your skeleton, and through this process help the nervous system to work more efficiently. The purpose of chiropractic care is to realign and rebalance your body to relieve pain and discomfort, and increase mobility.

A misalignment of the joints can occur for many reasons; some of the most common are incorrect lifting, car or sporting accidents, falls, stress, and poor posture. This can lead to pain, numbness, pins and needles, or restricted mobility. McTimoney chiropractors use only their hands to make adjustments to the bones of the body. The key to the success of the adjustments is in the speed, dexterity and accuracy with which they are performed.

Can Chiropractic help you?

A Chiropractor’s first concern is to find out what is wrong. They will also check for signs of any serious conditions for which you would need specialist advice.

The following conditions can benefit from chiropractic care:

  • Back, neck and shoulder pain
  • Pain, discomfort and stiffness in joints
  • Migraine
  • Muscular ache
  • Sports injuries
  • Arthritic pain

Treatment is very much a partnership between you and your chiropractor, before your treatment starts, your chiropractor will explain to you clearly:

  • The results of your examination
  • The proposed treatment plan
  • The benefits and any significant risks associated with your condition and proposed treatment plan

The McTimoney Method

The McTimoney method of chiropractic was developed by the late John McTimoney over 50 years ago and is taught only at the McTimoney College of Chiropractic in Abingdon, near Oxford. It is well known for being a precise, whole body approach to chiropractic care. McTimoney chiropractors use only their hands to make adjustments to the bones of the body. The key to the success of the adjustments is in the speed, dexterity and accuracy with which they are performed. The gentle nature of the McTimoney method makes it especially suitable for people of all ages.

A welcome from the Chair of the McTimoney Chiropractic Association (MCA)

The MCA is the second largest chiropractic association in Europe and is proud to have members practising in Ireland. At present, the UK is unique in Europe as being the only country to have achieved the enviable position of Statutory Regulation for chiropractors. All of our UK based members must be registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC) and it is an offence to use the title ‘chiropractor’ without being registered with the GCC.

The majority of members of the MCA, including our MCAI (McTimoney Chiropractic Association of Ireland) colleagues, graduated from the McTimoney College of Chiropractic (MCC), one of four UK Chiropractic Colleges accredited by the General Chiropractic Council. The MCC has been graduating safe and competent chiropractors for over 40 years.

The MCA also enjoys good relations with many organisations worldwide which are working towards unity of the profession. The MCA has championed the development of the chiropractic profession at home and abroad through representation, support of its members and active promotion; it continues to do so for its counterparts in the MCAI.
